Back pain is a complaint which effects so many of us. In fact, it's proven to be one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. It can be a debilitating and often emotionally burdening complaint, that not only wears on your body, but also your mind.

Causes of Back Pain
Back pain can occur for a variety of reasons, some more serious than others. Fortunately, it's not usually linked to any life-threatening conditions, but it's still something we'd all rather avoid. Sometimes it's not always possible to identify why our back are causing us pain. They may have been subject to injury or exposed to long periods of uncomfortable conditions.

Most commonly, back pain is known to be what is referred to as "non-specific" or "mechanical". Non-specific means that there's no obvious cause to the back pain, this could be something that we simply develop with age. Mechanical on the other hand originates from the displacement or injury of joints, bones or soft tissue around the spinal area. Other causes could be due to broken bones, infections or cancer. However, these causes are far less common.

Easing Your Back Pain

Did you know that a wide majority of our back pain is caused through uncomfortable sleeping and sitting conditions? A simple change to your mattress for example can be a sure way to help ease back pain. If you've been sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress for several years, this may well point to the original cause of your back pain.

Consider switching to a memory foam mattress instead of a spring based one. Many mattresses today utilise pressure relief technology which can go a long way to help ease the effects of back pain. Instead of pushing against your spine like spring-based mattresses do, memory foam moulds around your body and cradles you whilst you sleep.

Above all else though, go easy on your body as it's the only one you'll ever have. Intensive exercise can cause further damage to an already problematic back. Whereas light exercise can help to ease the complaint and loosen tight muscles. If you do have any concerns regarding you back pain though, it's important to visit your GP.
