Ajay Nehra, now a Freeman to the City of London

freemanAjay Nehra, now a Freeman to the City of London joins many others in this once an Honourary award. The Honourary Freedom is the highest honour the Corporation of London can bestow. Before the mid-19th century, the Freedom of the City of London was a practical necessity for those who plied a trade or made their living in the City of London. Historically a Freeman could, for example vote in Parliamentary elections and be exempt from paying all market tolls.

Today, becoming a Freeman of the City of London is a token of what once was very sought after. Ajay Nehra joins thousands of others including the likes of Winston Churchill and Florence Nightingale. By tradition Freeman of the City of London were permitted to walk sheep across London Bridge. This same tradition still happens yearly which we are sure Ajay Nehra will enjoy taking part in.
